Since December 23, 2008, KARO e.V. has been operating the first baby hatch in Plauen (Vogtland).
There is a way – even now!
If you find yourself in a situation that seems to have no way out, you are not alone. You can give your child a safe start in life.
At the baby hatch, you can place your baby in a warm bed anonymously, safely, and without fear. The room is open 24 hours a day and is not monitored by video cameras, so you can remain anonymous.
A few minutes after the hatch closes, emergency services are automatically notified. Your baby will be taken immediately to Helios Klinikum, where they will receive medical care and support.
You are now facing a difficult decision. But it can be a first step—toward safety, protection, and a future.
There is hope. For your child. And for you, too.

You can talk to us anytime – confidentially, free of charge, and anonymously, even at a later date.
To date, 13 children have been brought to safety. We protect their privacy—and yours.
You have an option
You don’t have to go through this alone. In addition to the baby hatch, there is also the option of anonymous birth – with medical support and complete confidentiality.

Protection and support during anonymous births
Mothers also have the option of anonymous birth. In this context, we would like to draw your attention to the Sternipark Findelbaby project, which offers advice and immediate support to pregnant women and new mothers via the free emergency number 0800-4560789.
